"New" Environmental SEM available!
Scope Data 1 and Scope Data 2 to be "retired"At the end of April, the EMAL file server known as emalserver2 (emalserver2.engin.umich.edu) will be going off-line. This will mean that any data stored on that machine will be no longer be accessible. If you have data stored in the volumes know as Scope Data 1 and Scope Data 2, you should remove and store it on your own hard disks, USB disks, or optical disks (CDs or DVDs). Remember, you should make at least two copies of all important data. All new data will now be stored on the new file server emalserver (emalserver.engin.umich.edu), when it is recorded from the EMAL instruments. There are new volumes called User Data 1 and User Data 2 that are provided for these purposes. There are two important things to remember about the EMAL file storage:
New Card Reader on-lineThe western-most door on the north-side of the building, that opens on to the parking lot, finally has a working card reader. This reader is located next to the door to the stairwell. Please note that it does NOT activate the lock on this door, but rather the one on the main double doors.
Expanded access to the building for all COE members does NOT mean that all users are allowed to use the laboratory at anytime of day.
Reminder about Scanning Probe Data AnalysisThe North Campus EMAL has a license for the scanned probe imaging analysis software SPIP. This software is located on the Image Analysis PC (the black Dell computer in room 421) in the North Campus EMAL. We have only one license for this software and it can only be used on that the one PC. Please report bugs to EMAL staff - the company is very responsive when it comes to fixing them or suggesting "workarounds".Note: DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB DONGLE THAT IS PLUGGED INTO THIS COMPUTER! This is the hardware key that allows the software to function.
